The battery pack has a high cycle life and is in line with the value concepts of low carbon, energy-saving and environmental protection.

What is the main reason for the explosion of 18650 batteries?

  • Over-charged

When the 18650 lithium battery is charged, the lithium ions of the positive electrode move to the negative electrode and are embedded in the mesh structure of the negative electrode material. If the lithium-ion battery is overcharged, it is easy to cause lithium precipitation in the negative electrode, causing lithium crystallization and piercing the diaphragm, which will cause The cell is short internally, causing an explosion. This is why an overcharge protection circuit must be added to protect the lithium-ion battery from overcharging when charging. The lithium battery protection board will monitor the voltage of each string of the lithium battery pack. If the overcharge voltage is exceeded, the lithium battery protection board will cut off the charging and protect the lithium battery. If the charger is used incorrectly and the lithium battery pack is not charged according to the specified special charger, it will also cause the lithium battery protection board to be abnormal and the lithium battery pack to be overcharged.
  • Short-circuit

The 18650 lithium battery is short-circuited, including internal short-circuit and external short-circuit, which will cause the 18650 battery to explode. There are several reasons for the internal short circuit. One reason is the problem of the production process, and there are debris left inside. During the use of the lithium battery, the internal positive and negative electrodes are short-circuited, resulting in an explosion. Another reason is that the external needle or extrusion causes a short circuit of the internal material, thereby causing an explosion. The external short circuit is caused by the direct contact between the positive electrode and the negative electrode of the lithium battery. For example, if the load equipment fails, the circuit is short-circuited, and the function of the lithium battery protection board fails, and the circuit cannot be cut off in time. If the short circuit continues, the internal pressure of the lithium battery will increase and cause an explosion. The reasons for the external short circuit, as well as the short circuit caused by the vibration, the short circuit caused by the extrusion collision, and so on.

  • High-temperature

If the temperature is too high, it will also cause the 18650 lithium battery to explode. The normal operating temperature range of lithium battery is 0~45℃ for charging; -20~65℃ for discharging; 0~45℃ for storage. The lithium battery protection board is generally set to protect the charging high temperature at 50 °C; discharge high-temperature protection at 70 °C. If there is no high-temperature protection, the lithium battery will continue to be discharged or stored, which will cause the explosion of the lithium battery. Therefore, please be sure to use and store the 18650 lithium battery within the specified temperature range, otherwise, the consequences will be serious.
