At present, the more commonly used lithium-ion battery pack materials are LiCoO₂, LiNiO2, and LiMn₂O₄. The most used material is lithium cobalt oxide, which has good cycle performance and is easy to manufacture. The disadvantage is that cobalt compounds are expensive.

Why choose lithium-ion battery pack?

  1. The energy ratio is relatively high. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have a high reserve density, which has reached 460-600Wh/kg, which is about 6-7 times that of lead-acid batteries.
  2. Long lifespan. the service life of a lithium iron phosphate battery pack can reach more than 6 years.
  3. The rated voltage is high (the single working voltage is 3.7V3.2V), which is convenient to form a battery power pack.
  4. Low self-discharge rate, which is one of the most prominent advantages of the battery.
  5. High and low temperature applicability, can be used at -20°C-60°C.

How to test lithium ion battery pack with multimeter?

Step 1: Put the rechargeable battery in its approved battery charger and let the device charge for a while.

Step 2: Turn on the multimeter and adjust the measuring knob to measure DC current, making sure to set the dial to at least measure the maximum number of voltages the battery can provide. If the setting on the multimeter matches the voltage provided by the battery, set the dial to measure the next higher voltage value.

For example, if there is a 3.7 volt battery and the meter has a 6 volt setting, set the dial to measure 6 volts.

Step 3: Touch the metal tip of the meter’s black probe lead to the negative (–) end or terminal of the battery, then touch the metal tip of the meter’s red probe lead to the positive (+) end or terminal of the battery. Observe the voltage reading on the multimeter display as you touch them to the battery.

If the voltage is significantly lower than what the battery should have when fully charged, the battery may be nearing the end of its useful number of charges.

How to charge lithium ion battery pack

  • Standard charging mode. Standard temperature 20±5℃ Charging battery consists of charging at a constant current rate of 0.2C until the battery voltage reach 4.2V .then battery be charged at constant voltage of 4.2V while tapering the charge current. Terminal charge until the charging current drops to 0.02C. Anyway, the total charge time for one cycle is not more than 8 hours.

  • Standard Discharge mode. Standard temperature 23±2℃ discharge to the cut-off voltage with 0.2C current.

  • Initial Capacity. The standard charge mode for charging, then the standard discharge mode to discharge, measured for the first time the battery capacity is the initial capacity.

How to wake a sleeping lithium ion battery pack?

Regarding the lithium-ion battery that has not been used for a long time, the voltage cannot be measured outside the lithium-ion battery with a multimeter, and it cannot be charged with a mobile phone or a universal charger. Many people may think that the battery is broken, in fact, the battery may not be damaged at this time, just enter the sleep mode. The voltage of the lithium-ion battery will gradually drop due to self-discharge.

When the voltage is lower than the minimum threshold voltage set by the protection board of the lithium-ion battery, the power output will be automatically cut off, and the lithium-ion battery will enter sleep mode.

No matter which method is used to activate the dormant lithium-ion battery, it cannot be turned on in a hurry. It is recommended to turn on the battery after charging for half an hour.
