This post mainly introduces the basic situation of upstream and downstream suppliers and integrators in my country’s electrochemical energy storage industry, mainly including battery suppliers, EMS/BME suppliers, energy storage converter suppliers, and system integrators through the industrial chain.
Lithium battery supplying
CATL is currently the absolute leader of domestic battery manufacturers, and its batteries and related management system products are mainly for the new energy vehicle and energy storage markets. The energy storage business of CATL is dominated by lithium-iron phosphate batteries. The sodium-ion battery under research is expected to be mass-produced in 2023. Currently, the energy storage business cooperation includes Yongfu, National Times (State Grid), Nebula Times (Nebulas), Keshi Da, Pros, etc.
In the field of energy storage, the ToC business model of CATL mainly undertakes and jointly undertakes energy storage projects at all levels in the country, as well as strategic cooperation with energy storage system integrators, photovoltaic system integrators, etc., to provide them with battery modules. Form a deep bond and improve the layout of the industrial and commercial side.
BYD has been developing energy storage systems since 2008, and currently mainly develops energy storage business in overseas markets. BYD’s energy storage products cover the market needs of small household energy storage products, industrial and commercial energy storage systems, and large public-level container systems. Its business scope covers more than 50 countries and more than 300 cities around the world. So far, the total global sales volume has exceeded 1.7%. GWh.
In 2020, BYD released the energy storage product BYD Cube, which covers an area of only 16.66 square meters and has an energy storage capacity of 2.8MWh. Up to now, CALB has achieved full coverage of application scenarios such as offshore islands, remote plateaus, high cold and low pressure in the field of energy storage, with a total of more than 20 projects and a total installed capacity of more than 150MWh. AVIC Lithium’s existing lithium battery production capacity is 11GWh. According to the plan, the power battery capacity of AVIC Lithium will reach 100GWh by 2025. These batteries will be mainly used in new energy vehicles and energy storage markets.
In 2016, Gotion Hi-Tech officially established the energy storage division to enter the field of battery energy storage. Currently, the main business method is to provide battery systems for energy storage projects.

At the same time, EVE Energy will also put into production and deliver Huawei’s 3GWh energy storage battery project this year. In order to ensure the supply of energy storage batteries, Yiwei Lithium Energy has signed a joint venture agreement with Linyang Energy to start the construction of a 10GWh lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery project with a total investment of about 3 billion RMB.
Sunwoda also provides power batteries and energy storage battery products to the market. On February 26 this year, according to the news released by Zaozhuang National High-tech Zone, Xinwangda’s annual output of 30GWh power battery project officially started construction. According to reports, the project plans to cover an area of 1,000 mu, with a construction area of about 1 million square meters and a total investment of 20 billion yuan. It mainly builds power batteries, energy storage batteries and supporting production bases with an annual output of 30GWh.
At present, Ganfeng Lithium’s lithium battery products cover more than 20 types of solid-state batteries, consumer batteries, small polymer batteries, power batteries, and energy storage systems. Its subsidiary Ganfeng Power is mainly responsible for the production of power batteries and energy storage batteries. . From the perspective of product types, the batteries used by Ganfeng Lithium in the energy storage market are lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are mainly for battery sales.
BMS/EMS system supplier
BMS and EMS (that is, battery management system and energy management system) are the management and control centers of the energy storage system. BMS mainly detects, evaluates, protects and balances the batteries in the energy storage system, and monitors the accumulative processing of batteries through various data. energy, and protect the safety of the battery; EMS mainly realizes the energy control of the internal microgrid of the energy storage system through data acquisition, network monitoring and energy scheduling to ensure the normal operation of the microgrid and the entire system.
At present, EMS/BMS suppliers in the energy storage market include battery manufacturers, new energy vehicle BMS manufacturers, and enterprises specializing in the development of energy storage market management systems. Battery manufacturers and new energy vehicle BMS manufacturers currently have a larger market share due to their more experience in product development.
BYD has established a BMS factory research department, specializing in batteries, BMS and related insurance, capacitors, photovoltaics, energy storage and other businesses. BYD’s electric vehicles are equipped with its own battery and battery management system. In addition to basic battery energy management and battery thermal management functions, its battery management system also has the function of automatic balancing of battery cells. However, since the BMS on the electric vehicle and the BMS on the energy storage system are different, the battery management strategy of BYD’s energy storage products will also be different. At present, there is no public data to analyze the performance or technical indicators of the BMS of its energy storage system.
The BMS of CATL is also integrated in the battery pack. As the sales and projects of battery modules are applied in the field of new energy vehicles and the energy storage market, they are generally not provided to integrators in the field of energy storage or new energy vehicle companies.
