Application of 18650 battery pack

The 18650 lithium battery is a type of cylindrical lithium battery, with a diameter of 18mm and a height of 65.0mm, with a rated voltage of 3.7V.

In order to meet the needs of more equipment, the 18650 lithium battery pack came into being. It is assembled according to 18650 cells in series and parallel to achieve higher voltage and longer discharge time.

How to charge 18650 battery with power supply?

Intelligent charging: This is the ideal charging management method. It follows the charging algorithm mentioned at the beginning of this section and is integrated in a small SMD IC. The peripheral circuit is simple, stable and reliable, such as TP4054/4055/4056/4057 , TP4002/5000, MAX1879, etc. The main feature of this chip is that it will monitor the voltage and current at the same time when judging whether it is full, stop charging at 4.2V, or stop charging when the charging current is less than 0.01C (usually about 50mA); completely cut off after full, no trickle floating charge , but monitor the voltage at any time, if the 18650 lithium battery voltage drops to a certain value and then start charging.

Can you charge a 18650 with a 5v power supply?

A 5V power supply cannot directly charge a lithium battery.

Lithium batteries are easily damaged by overcharging, so the requirements for overcharging are more stringent. The charging termination voltage should be controlled at 4.2V±0.05V. The charging current is generally recommended to use a current of half the battery capacity, that is, 0.5C, and 1C to 2C is recommended for fast charging.

If the lithium battery is directly charged with 5V voltage, there is no way to control the charging current and termination voltage, which may cause the battery to overheat and explode or be damaged by overcharging.

It is recommended to use a dedicated charger for charging.
