18650 is the originator of lithium-ion batteries – a standard lithium-ion battery model set by Japan’s SONY company in order to save costs, where 18 indicates a diameter of 18mm, 65 indicates a length of 65mm, and 0 indicates a cylindrical battery. Strictly speaking, it is called 18650 lithium battery, and it is called lithium battery or lithium battery pack with the protection board (BMS).
The voltage of the 18650 lithium battery is marked as 3.7V or 4.2V, but the voltage is actually the same. 3.7V is the rated voltage of the cell, and 4.2V is the voltage when the cell is fully charged. The common mainstream capacity in the market is 1800mAh-3300mAh, and there are even 3300 or 4000mAh. Except for the 3500mAh that has been mass-produced by LG, the current technology of other battery manufacturers is not stable, so it is not recommended to buy.
The discharge threshold of 18650 cells is generally 3.2V, and there are also 2.8V. Most lithium batteries cannot be discharged with a no-load voltage below 3.2V, otherwise excessive discharge will damage the battery. 4.2V is the highest limit voltage for battery charging. It is generally believed that charging the no-load voltage of the lithium battery to 4.2V is considered to be fully charged. During the battery charging process, the battery voltage gradually rises from 3.7V to 4.2V, and the lithium battery cannot be charged. Charge the no-load voltage above 4.2V, otherwise it will damage the battery, which is the special place of lithium battery.
The theoretical cycle times of 18650 cells can reach about 1000 times!
